Yes, we understand that last minute changes could come up. Though at the same time the co-travellers whom you may have confirmed your travel should not feel left out either.
Following cancellation charges would be applied if a confirmed travel is cancelled, which get credited to the co-traveller who is affected by the cancellation of your travel:-
PAID TRAVELS:
FREE TRAVELS:
Changes could come up due to unavoidable reasons. Immediately inform your co-traveller of you change in plans. You must then cancel your travel plan using the cancel icon on the travel plan card to avoid No Show being raised against you. Cancellation charges would be debited from your account in case of “PAID” travel, where as you may receive 2 thumbs down rating on cancellation of confirmed “FREE” travel.
However, we recommend that you should anticipate you travel plans and then proceed to confirm the travels. Your cancellation at the last minute impacts other traveller(s) and their plans.
Well it’s difficult to judge the discernment or any emergency call. But yes, there are following measures in the system to help minimize and compensate the user who is affected by the last minute cancellation.
Please note, the above mechanisms are just some deterrents, to ensure accountability on the part of each member on JoinWheels to respect each other’s time efforts. These may not ensure 100% assurance of no last minute drop outs.
No Show process is a way to identify the co-traveller(s) who is/are either late beyond the 5 mins of acceptable limit or not reachable at all. No show option is enabled for 15mins from the agreed pickup time. No Show, finds the location of co-traveller(s) using the GPS on your device.
The co-traveller not within 100 meters of the pick-up point or GPS finder not being enabled, would be tagged as “No Show” and penalty would be applied.
This penalty (in case of Paid travels) would be credited to the co-traveller who was affected due to the no show. In case of free travels, 2 thumbs down rating would be applied as penalty on the travellers profile.
However if both the c-travellers are found to be within 100meters of pickup point, then the travellers are expected to co-ordinate offline. Beyond 3 no show attempts which get closed with both travellers being at the pick up point, the system would then cancel the ride and transaction would be cancelled. Also no penalty would be applied to either of the co-travellers.
No show penalty is only applicable on paid travel. Charges are as follows:-
Note, the no show penalty is credited into the account of the affected co-traveller at the end of the journey.
An unanticipated situation can always occur!
You may immediately start coordinating with the co-travellers after 5minutes of wait time. If due to any reason you are unable to coordinate with them, you may report a “No Show” within 15minutes from the pick-up time. Refer to the No Show process.
First try and connect with the co-traveller on the JoinWheels chat or call them to co-ordinate. When your attempts to reach out to co-travellers have failed you may need to report a “No Show”
JoinWheels provides a social interactive community for like-minded daily commuters to know each other and travel along. JoinWheels does not verify or endorse any member on the platform. Following key considerations must be kept in mind while deciding whom to travel along with:-
There may be times that you may like to share your travel plans only with your friends, family or specific co-workers.
To achieve this, you may create as many groups as you like and add those users into the groups.
When you post your travel, you may then select the specific groups while posting your plan. Such travel plans would be searchable by all the members who are a part of the group with whom you have shared the ride.
No, it is not mandatory to have any balance in your wallet and still share rides. JoinWheels is a community platform for all like-minded daily commuters to share their rides. However you may only be able to hitch / offer free rides, without any balance in your wallet.
To travel on paid rides which are offering CITY RATES, you must have the necessary balance in your wallet to do so.
It is extremely important for the co-travellers to share their part of the cost of travelling in a private vehicle of a co-traveller. The person driving one’s own private car should not be doing so for commercial purpose. At JoinWheels CITY RATE is used to calculate the most optimal share of the total travel cost.
City Rate has been derived keeping in consideration following factors :-
These costs are derived and apportioned between an average and realistic number of 3 co-travellers in a vehicle including the person who is driving the car. The variable cost may change with time due to change in cost of fuel. Though the fixed cost component would change once in a year with any annual increase in costs (is applicable).
Thus the above rates and cost of operating a private vehicle on a trip gets shared amongst the co-travellers on pure play cost sharing.
When you offer a ride, you are also considered as a one of the cost sharing members in the group. Thus the cost of travel would never be covered up to a 100%. Though your share of the total cost would keep reducing based on the number of co-travellers you may offer ride to.
With effective ride sharing you could reduce your daily cost of travel by 80 - 85%.
No, JoinWheels is a non-commercial platform. It is only for the daily commuters to travel together and share their rides. The CITY RATE ensures that the cost of travel is apportioned and shared amongst the co-travellers without making any commercial profit.

On Hold amount is applicable for paid travels only. It is either a part or full cost of travel which is put on hold on a confirmed paid travel plan.
The amount is held up in case of payable travels to ensure that the co-travellers have sufficient balance to pay for their travels once the travel is completed. System holds a certain amount from the respective wallets to achieve this. The amounts held are as follows
Following example would help clarify it further:
3 co-travellers plan to travel together John, Mark and Steven. John is driving his own car. Mark and Steven need to pay $10 and 15 respectively to John for their share of ride.
You may withdraw your wallet balance at any point in time. Simply tap on WITHDRAW AMOUNT from your wallet screen and fill the necessary details and submit your request. The withdrawal request would get processed the transfer would be initiated with within 3-4 business days.
The withdraw-able amount cannot exceed the Transactional Amount in your wallet. This is the amount available in your wallet less the amount on hold (if any).
You can easily track the payments from and into your wallet from the “View Transaction history” link on the Wallet screen, under the “Total Amount”.
Transaction history shows you the details of all credits and debits done in the wallet, including amount on hold / cancellations and no show charges (if any).
You can charge your wallet by using any VISA, MASTER CARD or AMEX credit / debit cards.
We do not store or save any of your card information, the cards are charged using PCI DSS compliant payment gateway service provider.
Your wallet is debited with the cost of your travel when your travel is completed. This amount is put “On Hold” on your wallet as soon as you confirm your travel with the co-traveller.
This is done to ensure that co-travellers do not over-book and have sufficient balance to pay for their ride on completion of travel.
The on hold amount is visible in your wallet under the “On Hold” amounts, such that you can keep a track too.
Your wallet gets credited with the amount as due from your co-travellers immediately after your travel stands successfully completed (without any No Shows from your co-travellers).
JoinWheels services are free to use for all FREE travels and for all passengers who are hitching any kind of ride.
However if you are a service provider offering a PAID CITY RATE travel in your private car, only then you would be charged a settlement and service fee.
This would be 6% per successful travel transaction offered by you. For example John has offered a ride to Mike on a CITY RATE. Mike pays $10 to John on completion of travel. John would be credited $9.4 into his wallet, which is $10 minus the 6% service fee.
